Mu Rho Omega Chapter
Our History
Mu Rho Omega Chapter was founded by a group of young and courageous women who took a leap of faith to form this chapter, with the hope of keeping their legacy alive for generations to come.

Nestled amongst the cane, corn, bean, and rice fields of western Palm Beach County, you will find the rural community of Belle Glade, Florida. Located on the northern end of the Everglades, the Lake Region is comprised of several rural communities including, Okeechobee, Pahokee, Belle Glade, South Bay, Lake Harbor, and Clewiston, Florida.

On Saturday, April 7, 1979 seventeen visionaries sought to grow a different crop. They decided it would be within their powers, talents, and abilities to charter a chapter under the auspices of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated. This chapter would become Mu Rho Omega.
During the formative years, service to the community focused on the following objectives: To upgrade the performance of youth as manifested in behavior and reading scores, Enhance informational services provided through social and governmental agencies, and lastly, to provide role models for youth by displaying examples of dignity and pride by word and deed.
The national goals of Alpha Kappa Alpha were supported through Job Corp, Youth Forum Projects, Reading is Fundamental (RIF) programs, Elementary Reading Programs, United Negro College Fund (UNCF) Drives, Scholarship Programs and Projects, in addition to disseminating Consumer and Trade information to communities. Activities also included partnerships with other clubs and organizations in the area.
Spurred to victory’s heights, through the past 44 years, the community-minded, moral, and ethical ladies of Mu Rho Omega have endeavored to cultivate life-long members, create future leaders demonstrating competence and commitment, while rendering service to all mankind.
